Updated: Mar 16, 2022

You can stroll down the Champs-Elysées, get lost admiring the paintings in the Louvre, or take the iconic picture under the Eiffel Tower, but if you don’t try these Parisian delicacies you’ll have missed out on the most essential element of the French culture.

Top 5 Foods in Paris—And Where to Try Them

1. Escargots: A national symbol and an all time favorite of mine. Traditional Burgundy preparation- snails in the shell with lots of garlic. L’escargot Montorgueil, Bouillon Chartier, Le Procope, or Allard

2. Onion soup: This iconic soup of caramelized onions, beef stock, brandy if you’re lucky, a large crouton, and Gruyere cheese melted on top makes for a perfect lunch! La Jacobine, Flottes, Le Saint-Germain, or Vagenende

3. Cheese: France offers more than 300 varieties of cheese, making them true turophiles. It is often served at the end of the meal showing the Parisians love of this rich culinary delight, saving the best for last! Fromagerie Laurent Dubois, Quatrehomme, or Barthelemy

4. Bread: Whether it is a fresh baguette for a traditional ham sandwich or a buttery croissant for breakfast, enjoy either strolling through the streets like a true Parisian... Du Pain et Des Idees, La Maison d’Isabelle, or Maison Landemaine

5. Macarons: The delicate and airy shells are made of almond flour, and sandwiched between a luscious interior. Including flavors of raspberry, salted caramel, pistachio, and my favorite lemon. Laduree, Pierre Herme, or Angelina.

Of course all of these items pair nicely with champagne, after all it's Paris, you can always add bubbles!
